   Dizzy Gillespie was a trumpet virtuoso and improviser, building on the virtuoso style of Roy Eldridge but adding layers of harmonic complexity previously unknown in jazz. His beret and horn-rimmed spectacles, his scat singing, his bent horn, pouched cheeks and his light-hearted personality were essential in popularizing bebop.

The interview occurred on stage immediately after the concert and lasts for 18mins. Dizzy displays his usual sense of humour and is interesting to listen to.5/5(11).

   Writing for Allmusic, Richard S. Ginell states: "Although the sheer scope of this double-CD roundup of all of Dizzy's Victor sessions places it most obviously within the evolution of bebop, it is absolutely essential to Latin jazz collections as well".. Music historian and Arts Administrator for the National Endowment for the Arts, A. B. Spellman recommended the album for the NPR Basic Jazz.

   "Salt Peanuts" gets some sparks flying before the band runs through a typical version of the comedy number "Swing Low Sweet Cadillac." The second half of the disc, with excellent versions of "Land of Milk and Honey," "Tin Tin Deo," and the old standby "A Night in Tunisia," has the meat of the CD.
